Not Just Avatar, Govinda Revealed He Rejected Devdas And His Reason Will Leave You Scratching Your Head

Govinda has been making headlines for having rejected James Cameron’s Avatar because he didn’t to be covered in paint. The actor also claimed that he suggested the title of the film but refused to the film. Avatar, however, isn’t the only film the Hero No. 1 actor turned down. Govinda has also spoken at length about his reasons for rejecting Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas.

The actor was offered by Sanjay Leela Bhansali to play Jackie Shroff part, Chuni Laal, in the film but the director was shot down because Govinda didn’t want to play a character role while he was still enjoying his stardom in Bollywood. Talking about the mega hit he told India TV, "I asked Sanjay aapko mere mein Chunni Lal kaha dikhta hai? I was a superstar at that time. Mujhe laga theek hai, aap top ke director ho, achchhi baat hai, par aap mujhe character role kyu de rahe hai. Maine kaha ek kaam karna, Shah Rukh se kaho ki woh mujhe kahe. I can do the film for friendship but I won't do it otherwise. I won't do the film because you are a star or a top director. I love Shah Rukh a lot. We haven't done a film together but he is a very nice person."

So it’s obvious that Shah Rukh Khan never went back to Govinda asking him to be a part of the film and Jackie Shroff backed the rather memorable role. Besides, Avatar and Devdas the actor has also rejected big films like Chandni and Gadar Ek Prem Katha. Talking about Sunny Deol’s Gadar he explained "When Anil Sharma sir was reading the film to me, it had a lot of swear words. I said mein kisi aadmi se pang nahi leta tum ye kya kya kahte ho film mein. Bahut galia thi sir, I can't even discuss it here."
