Not Just Ranveer And Alia, Watch Out For These Characters In Gully Boy

How many times have you come out watching a film and did not understand why the supporting character were there at all if they had nothing to do. Often, directors cast brilliant actors in supporting roles but give them so less to do that it is almost painful to watch.

Gully Boy, with many other tools of filmmaking takes this issue into account and brilliantly so. The supporting characters are not only well fleshed out in terms of characterization and writing but also performed with equal brilliance. Here are a few characters of Gully Boy that you need to watch out for, apart from Ranveer and Alia.

MC Sher

Making his debut with the film, Siddhant Chaturvedi as MC Sher or Shrikant is a revelation and the biggest highlight of the film. He is flamboyant and fierce and so much more. From his Mumbai slang to his grasp of the unique lingo and mannerisms of Mumbai, you can’t find a smidgen of a flaw in anything that he does. As Ranveer’s mentor and constant companion in his journey, Siddhant often threatens to overshadow Ranveer while he is giving the performance of his lifetime.

Moeen

This is one character that could have easily been overlooked, but actor Vijay Varma makes sure that does not happen. As dyed in the wool ‘chawl ka chokra’ from Dharavi his act is simply too real. He has also been given certain layers and apart from his family, he is the biggest pillar of Murad’s life in Dharavi. Watch out for one scene where his and Murad’s friendship is heart-wrenching. He is almost unbelievably good in this scene.

Murad’s Father

No one had any doubts about Vijay Raaz’s acting chops, but what he does with his character in Gully Boy is on another level. As Murad’s mercurial father, Raaz is sincere and almost menacing. Just when you think to give him a tag of the villain of the film, he has a such a pure moment in the film that you come out trying to understand his character instead of hating him.

Razia

Whoever thought amount of screen time and dialogues is essential to make a strong impact in a film should really watch out for Amruta Subhash who plays Ranveer’s mother in the film. Her presence in the film is mostly quiet and he gets barely two scenes to show her mettle and does she show her mettle in the scenes.
