Nupur Sanon says people told her follow in sister Kriti Sanon's footsteps: "Then they tell you, ‘Ye toh nepotism hai’"

Nupur Sanon made her rather unconventional but dazzling debut opposite Akshay Kumar in the music video Filhaal. The video in 2019 created a big buzz and so far has over 1 billion views on Youtube and a super hit sequel to the song Filhaal 2 Mohabbat which was released recently. While it looks like a great start for Nupur who has already become a well-known face, the actress opened up about facing comparisons with her sister Kriti Sanon and how she was once asked by people around her to wait for a bigger debut instead of doing a music video.

Talking about her decision to do things differently in her career as compared to her sister, Nupur tells News 18, “I understand Kriti and I are sisters but we both have different thought processes and definitely different journeys. What happens is that a lot of people compare you and talk about nepotism and then they are the ones who keep pushing you to have the same journey and when you have the same journey then they tell you, ‘Arrey ye toh same hi kar rahi hai. Ye toh nepotism hai.’ My point is to let that person take their own journey," 

Having said that, having a sister in the industry definitely helped Nupur and she admits that saying that she has learned from her sister’s mistakes and her knowledge of the industry. The Filhaal star also spoke about the certain disadvantages she’s had to face and added, “There’s a thing that comes along with it which I don’t really like and that is being compared and being under pressure of she (Kriti) was launched by so-and-so person. There were a lot of people who told me ‘Your sister got launched by such a big production house, you should wait it out and get launched by someone that big. Why are you doing a music video?’ That’s kind of putting the other person down," Nupur said.

Kriti Sanon made her debut alongside Tiger Shroff in Sajid Nadiadwala’s Heropanti in 2014. Nupur too hopes to venture into films and was recently rumoured to have bagged a role in Tiger and Kriti starrer Ganpath. The official announcement, however, is yet to be made.
