Yes, you read that right. Amit Masurkar's Sherni starring Vidya Balan in the lead, and Shoojit Sircar directed Sardar Udham that had Vicky Kaushal in the titular role have been shortlisted for India's official entry to Oscars 2022 . It's among the 14 films amongst which one name would finally be sent to the Oscars committee in the category of Best International Feature Film category. Regional films, including Yogi Babu's Tamil movie Mandela and Martin Prakkat led Malayalam film Nayattu are also a part of the list. Now, a 15 member jury would be watching these 14 films in Kolkata and would decide on which ones to finally send for the prestigious award.

Sherni was about a female forest officer who was given the task to control a menacing 'sherni' that had gone rogue. Sardar Udham is the retelling of the story of the revolutionary who avenged the Jallianwala Bagh massacre after 21 years.
