Oscars Pushed From February To April 2021 Due To Coronavirus Pandemic

The Oscars night happens to be the biggest celebration for Hollywood. However, after the Coronavirus pandemic, things won’t quite stay the same. Now, the latest is the Oscars have been shifted from February 28th to April 25th 2021.

This time, the movies that will hit the theatres in early 2021 would be acknowledged for the Oscars along with some of the movies which took ‘direct-to-web’ release, as Coronavirus pandemic forced theatres to shut their operations and hence, absolutely no movies released since the last three months.

President of the Academy, David Rubin, and CEO Dawn Hudson, spoke about the decision to mirror.co.uk "For over a century, movies have played an important role in comforting, inspiring and entertaining us during the darkest of times. They certainly have this year.”

He further stated to the same media portal, "Our hope, in extending the eligibility period and our awards date, is to provide the flexibility filmmakers need to finish and release their films without being penalised for something beyond anyone's control.”

Announcing the new schedule of the prestigious ceremony, The Academy’s official twitter handle tweeted, “It's true. Next year's #Oscars will happen on April 25, 2021.

"Here's what else you need to know: - The eligibility period for the Oscars will be extended to February 28, 2021. - Nominations will be announced on March 15, 2021. - @AcademyMuseum will open on April 30, 2021.
