Paresh Rawal’s ace act as Babu Rao in Hera Pheri now has sort of a cult following. The actor who equally contributed in making the character iconic as the writers, today looks back at how the entire comic act materialised and reveals that he was filmmaker Priyadarshan’s one and only choice to play Babu Rao.

The veteran actor’s Babu Rao is the most memorable from the terrific trio also featuring Akshay Kumar and Suneil Shetty. Their easy chemistry and onscreen banter is good enough to crack fans up even today and the film is a meme treasure for today’s social media generation. Yet, the film has not managed to get a third film despite at a time when filmmakers jump at the opportunity of turning hits into big franchises.

The second installment of the film was seen 15 years ago and today we wait with bated breath for a Hera Pheri 3 which has almost happened so many times now but is still nowhere near being made. Talking about it Paresh shared his views about a third installment and said he’s really looking forward to it while talking to Times Of India. He expressed, “It must happen and it will. We don’t get to see these kinds of characters and films coming more often. We should keep such franchises alive. And I feel this is the best time to do comedy and bring joy to others.”

While bringing the terrific Hera Pheri trio back together is proving to be a challenge today, Paresh even showed optimism in being a part of a spin off on Babu Rao himself. Talking about the idea he added, “It would be interesting to put Baburao against different backdrops to see how he excels. I think it is a unique character in all aspects. He has all the qualities in him. He has an RK Laxman and Chaplin kind of characterization.”
