It was way back in the year 1990 that Aashiqui was released that starred Rahul Roy and Anu Agarwal in the lead. The film was directed by Mahesh Bhatt and was produced by Gulshan Kumar. That film made the lead actors an overnight success and the music of the film that was composed by Nadeem-Shravan is hailed to this day.

After 23 years a sequel to the film was made that was called Aashiqui 2 and was directed by Mahesh Bhatt’s nephew Mohit Suri. This time Bhushan Kumar was the producer. Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapoor were the lead pair for the film and the poster was shot in the same way the lead actors of the first instalment were shot in it. Well, their faces were hidden under a jacket.

But after the release of the second instalment of the film, talks about a third sequel to the film has been there. However, nothing concrete has been known about the film yet.

Earlier there were reports about Mahesh Bhatt coming back to direct the film that Bhushan Kumar was supposed to produce and it would have Alia Bhatt and her then beau Siddharth Malhotra in the lead roles but the dotted line wasn’t signed. Then again there were reports about Sidharth Malhotra stating the scripting was in progress and the film would be up and running by the next year which meant in the year 2017. He further stated that the film had a lot of angst and mmusic and that Mohit Suri wanted him to sing a few songs in the film.

Thereafter there were rumours about how Alia was least interested in the project and that’s when she took to her social media handle and said Aashiqui was a brand in itself. She further stated that getting a chance to be directed by her father was also extremely special for her as an actor.

And now Mirror has reported, discussions on Part 3 are underway. Mirror further quoted a source as saying, “Aashiqui is special for Bhushan as it is among the most successful romantic franchises. Like the earlier two films, this one too will be a musical with an intense love story in its backdrop.”

The report further states that Bhushan has decided to take up Mahesh Bhatt’s Dil Hai Ki Maanta Nahin which released in 1991 and featured Aamir Khan and Pooja Bhatt in the lead roles. The film was a huge success and it was again a Gulshan film that had wonderful music.

The report further stated it was another simplistic musical story and a genre that has taken a backseat. Both films will take off when things get back to normal.
