Pratap Pothen On Ponmagal Vandhal’s Direct OTT Release: “Had It Released In Theatres, Someone Would Have Said ‘Jyotika Is Overacting’”

Ponmagal Vandhal has set the record in Tamil industry by being the first film to have opted for a direct OTT release. This has been one of the most anticipated films of the year with a steller starcast and it had left many shocked with this decision. But looks like the star cast of the film- Parthipan, Subbu Panchu and Pratap Pothen are happy with this decision. In fact, they seem o be happier that there hasn’t been a theatrical release.

Pratap Pothen does not like watching a film in the theatres, mainly due to the fan frenzy. He had a valid point- he often misses important scenes because the fans would keep up with their seetis and taalis. The madness over film releases in south is known to all. So Pratap would watch the film at home most of the times. He said that because of direct OTT releases, there had been almost zero chance of bad mouthing a film. “Had it released in theatres, someone would have said ‘Jyotika was overacting’ despite her superlative performance’ or someone would have written negatively. With OTT, there is no word-of-mouth, no frenzy to watch first day first shows. Here content is the king, ” Pratap quipped.  He added that his social media has been flooded with congratulatory messages about Ponmagal Vandhal.

Something similar seems to have happened with Partipan and Subbu Panchu as well. Subbu said that earlier, he would get calls from Madurai one day and from Tiruvallur some other day. Now, he has been getting calls and messages from friends all over- be it Srilanka or the U.S, because OTT enabled everyone to see it. When Pratap added that a film being available for viewing to 2.5 crore people, he corrected him to say that the numbers would be higher since there are 2.5 crore subscriptions.

Parthipan added to this and said, “Many from the U.S have called me.”
