Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Saturday night ordered an immediate ban on the telecast of Colors' mythological show, Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush.

    Yes, you read that right.

The Valmiki community were gravely enraged by the content of the show and they started protesting almost immediately. While the community protested on Saturday and had called for a protest, a youth even got shot! Later he was operated though. When the mishaps were reported, the District Commissioners swiftly followed orders and stopped the telecast of the show.

Now, the latest we heard is, High Court has refused to lift ban on Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush. The Punjab High Court adjourned the case for the next hearing on September 12. During a special hearing on a petition filed by Colors TV, Justice T.S. Dhindsa declined to grant a stay on the order passed by various District Commissioners in their capacity as District Magistrates.

Arguing the case, Additional Advocate General Rameeza Hakeem said, “the decision to ban the telecast of the serial had been taken on the ground that Rishi Valmiki had been portrayed in a negative light, hurting the sentiments of the Valmiki community in Punjab.”

During the hearing, which went beyond 5 p.m., Colors TV said, the ban order was passed without adhering to the principles of natural justice and without the ingredients of Section 19 of the Cable Operators Regulation Act.

Further, in order to lift the ban the channel on record mentioned, the producers of the serial will be entering into a dialogue with the Home Secretary to discuss the contentious scenes. They had also offered to delete the scenes that portrayed Valmiki in objectionable light.

We tried to get in touch with TV actress Shivya Pathania and the producer of the series Siddharth Kumar Tewary but they remained unavailable till the time of filing the story.
