    Rajiv Kapoor, Raj Kapoor youngest son died in Mumbai today following a massive heart attack. The 58 year old Bollywood veteran’s death has come as a big shock to the family as he was rushed to the hospital after the attack but was pronounced dead. Raj Kapoor’s eldest and only remaining son, Randhir Kapoor confirmed the news of brother Rajiv’s demise and told ETimes, “I have lost my youngest brother, Rajiv. He is no more. The doctors tried their best but could not save him. I am at the hospital, waiting for his body.”

    While Kapoor family members pour in at Rajiv Kapoor’s residence along with some others friends from the fraternity, many others celebrities mourned his demise and sent pairs to the family via their posts on social media. Akshay Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Boney Kapoor, Soni Razdaan, Anupam Kher and several others from Bollywood paid their tributes to the late actor.

    Boney Kapoor on Twitter wrote, “Shocked n Devastated on #RajivKapoor passing away. Seen you grow up. Condolences to the entire family. RIP #RajivKapoor.”


    Actor Anupam Kher recalled collaborating with Rajiv on the film Prem Granth and wrote in Hindi, “Saddened by the demise of Rajiv Kapoor. Had worked in the film Prem Grath which was directed by him. He was a talented director. Also got the opportunity to known him as a person. He was a lively and happy person. May God give strength to his family to deal with this loss. Om Shanti.”

    Actress Kareena Kapoor mourned her uncle sharing picture of grandfather Raj Kapoor with sons Randhir, Rishi and Ranjiv. She captioned the photo, “Broken but strong.”

    Actor Neil Nitin Mukesh remembered the late actor fondly called Chimpu uncle and shared pictures from various family gathering featuring him. He wrote, “Such a big loss for our family. We lost our most beloved chimpu uncle today. You have left us with nothing but the most fond memories of you. I will truly miss you loads. Love you forever chimpu uncle.”

    Madhuri Dixit who was the leading lady in the film prem Granth opposite late actor Rishi Kapoor remembered Rajiv who had directed the movie and wrote, “I had the opportunity of working with #Rajiv Kapoor in the film PremGranth. It was a difficult subject which he handled with great maturity though it was his first film. Remembering the wonderful moments we shared. My heartfelt condolences to the Kapoor family. RIP.”

    Actor Akshay Kumar sent condolences to the Kapoor family through his tweet, “Saddened to hear about the untimely demise of #RajivKapoor ji. My deepest condolences to the entire family.”

    Actor Tusshar Kapoor wrote, “Sad to hear of the passing away of Rajiv Kapoor! Deepest condolences to the family! May his soul rest in peace.” 

    Singer Lata Mangeshkar paid a tribute to Rajiv with a tweet,. “Mujhe abhi pata chala ki Raj Kapoor sahab ke chote bete, guni abhineta Rajiv Kapoor ka aaj swargwas hua. Sunke mujhe bahut dukh hua.Ishwar unki aatma ko shanti pradan kare yehi meri prarthana.” Read her post.

    Actress Daisy Shah also expressed grief and tweeted, “Saddened to hear about the demise of Shri #RajivKapoor ji. My deepest condolences to the Kapoor family.”

    Rajiv Kapoor was an actor, director and producer. He left the film business in the 90’s but was known for projects like, Ram Teri Ganga Maili, Prem Granth, Heena, Angaarey, Hum Toh Chaale Pardes and others.
