    2020 has been a dull year as far as films and shows are concerned as theatres remained shut down for months and shooting fresh content remained off limits. The OTT platforms however gained profoundly in the process while TV thrived on nostalgia making this year’s most searched films and shows list look a whole lot different that it would have otherwise.

    Yahoo released its annual most searched list of shows and films and would certainly leave you surprised at how unconventional the entertainment choices have been this year featuring no projects of the Khans or any other superstar which would generally be the case.

    10. Mirzapur – The long anticipation of the second season and its arrival in October brought this Amazon Prime Video series on the list this year. The crime drama certainly thrived on people’s need for entertainment during the pandemic induced lull.

    9. Shakuntala Devi – Vidya Balan playing the mathematics genius in this biopic that got a direct OTT release made the right kind of noise and gave the audiences a family entertainer they craved so much when there were no theatrical releases.

    8. Street Dancer 3D – A January and pre-lock down release brought Varun Dhawan, Nora Fatehi, Prabhu Deva and Shraddha Kapoor together and was well received by the audiences. The dance film had a decent run at the box office with some great music that definitely left a mark.

    7. Bigg Boss – Bigg Boss 13 ended in February 2020 announcing Sidharth Shukla as the winner which is where all the fan enthusiasm peaked. That followed by Bigg Boss 14 that kicked off in October despite the pandemic made the show on the most talked about things in the entertainment world this year.

    6. Baaghi 3 – The Tiger Shroff action adventure film was one of the last releases in theatres ahead of the pandemic induced lockdown that came in March. The movie with all its action galore made it hard for audiences to turn away.

    5. The Kapil Sharma Show – The show enjoyed a hiatus of its own during the lockdown but the old episodes of the show made it a go-to entertainment option for families at home when there was nothing. The show’s audience less return was post the unlocks also brought a much-needed reprieve.


    4. Ramayan – The audience once again returned to Doordarshan to relive the epic making the Ramanand Sagar show one of the biggest hits on TV once again.  The cast that holds near god like reverence in the hearts of those who had seen it when it released originally in 1987 became the talk of the town once again.

    3. Dil Bechara – Sushant Singh Rajput’s death followed the release of his last film that broke several records in the OTT world. The movie made fans emotional over the death of the Bollywood actor all over again marked the debut of Mukesh Chabbra and Sanjana Sanghi.


    2. Mahabharat – Another blast from the past was the replaying of the epic Mahabharat on TV which brought the cast back in the limelight all over again. Not only did the B.R. Chopra series re-release on Doordarshan but the 2013 Sidharth Anand Kumar version also created a whole lot of buzz in the absence of the regular TV programs that kept audiences hooked.

    1. Tarak Mehta Ka Ulta Chashma – The evergreen TV show with its extensive cast continued to be the biggest comic relief for viewers in an exceptionally harsh year. The SAB TV show that has a loyal fan base show a halt and re-return on TV owing to the pandemic. It was also marred by the exit of a few favorite characters and even Covid-19 cases on set but nothing stopped it from being the most searched for entertainment options in the year.
