Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Kabir Singh, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani, is celebrating one year today. While the film was loved by majority of the audience, there were some who felt it was glamorizing toxic masculinity and misogyny. So it not only became the second highest grossing Bollywood film of 2019, but also the most controversial movie of the year. Well, Sandeep’s next project Devil, which will hopefully star Ranbir Kapoor, is expected to be even more intense and dark than Kabir Singh.

While rumors earlier suggested that South superstar Prabhas is being considered for the film, a source told Mid Day that Ranbir has not given up on Devil yet. The actor met up with Sandeep for a narration in September last year, and gave a verbal nod to the project. They met up in January once again and will now schedule a meeting for August. The source was quoted saying, “It's a dark role that Ranbir has never attempted before. However, before signing the film, Ranbir wants to read the full bound script. The next meeting is scheduled in August.”

The source further revealed that the darkness and toxicity in Sandeep’s next will be much more intense than what was seen in Kabir Singh and went on to add, “Ranbir may garner much more criticism than Shahid Kapoor did.” Nevertheless, Ranbir has reportedly discussed the project with Brahmastra director and his BFF Ayan Mukerji, who believes that Devil could be one of the most defining movies of Ranbir’s career.

Well, we certainly are excited to see the extremely versatile actor in this never-seen-before avatar. Meanwhile, Ranbir will next be seen on the big screen in Brahmastra alongside girlfriend Alia Bhatt, superstar Amitabh Bachchan and television’s Naagin Mouni Roy.
