Rohit Shetty’s cop drama Sooryavanshi, featuring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, and Ranveer Singh starrer sports drama ‘83 are two of the most awaited Bollywood films of the year. Their initial release dates were pushed indefinitely last year due to the coronavirus lockdown but when theatres reopened, fans expected the two actors to jump at the opportunity. While rumors did suggest that the films would hit the big screen on Diwali or Christmas 2020, the dates were pushed yet again.

Well, latest buzz suggests that while Sooryavanshi might release on Good Friday, Ranveer’s film will not be arriving on the big screen any time soon. In a report shared by Mid Day, a source revealed, “Since the 1983 Prudential Cup was held in England and Wales, the makers have been counting on a warm response from the Indian diaspora in the UK. Additionally, they were targeting a wide release across 80 to 100 countries where cricket is immensely popular. With the UK under lockdown and several countries reeling under the pandemic, the team has decided to push the film’s release to June, for the time being.”

Co-producer Vishnuvardhan Induri confirmed the news about a global release, but did not touch the June topic. He explained that not releasing ‘83 in countries like UK, which love cricket but are under a lockdown, would be injustice. Also, since the original 1983 World Cup was held in England, it only makes sense to wait for the COVID situation to get better there before release. He added, “The movie has a global appeal and we want all the international cricket markets to open up before we release it.”

Well, we are sure Kabir Khan’s directorial will be worth the wait.
