Ranveer Singh Starrer Remaker Of Anniyan 'Totally Illegal' Says Producer Of The Tamil Blockbuster In A Strongly Worded Note

Ranveer Singh on Wednesday surprised fans as he adding another film to his growing list of upcoming projects. The actor announced his collaboration with mega South filmmaker Shankar for a remake of the 2005 Tamil hit Anniyan which was made with actor Vikram in the lead.

As fans had only just begun rejoicing this epic collaboration the Bollywood project has already landed in trouble with the makers of the original. The producer of Anniyan, V Ravichandran on Friday asked filmmaker Shankar to immediately stop all work on the remake calling the project illegal in a strongly-worded open letter. He pointed out that a legal notice would follow the note.

“I am utterly shocked to know that you are likely to undertake the Direction of a Hindi film by adapting the story of the movie Anniyan. You are well aware of the fact that I am the Producer of the said movie Anniyan. The entire story rights were purchased by me from writer Sujatha (alias late Rangarajan) for which full payment was done by me to him and necessary records are also available. I am the whole and sole owner of the rights of the storyline. As such, any such adoption or remaking or copying the main plot of the said movie, without my permission, is totally illegal,” wrote V Ravichandran in the letter.

Calling out Shankar for going behind his back and taking up the Hindi remake, Ravichandran said that by giving Shakar the opportunity to direct Anniyan he had helped the filmmaker get back on his feet. “Still I have provided you the opportunity to Direct the film Anniyan, after which you gave regained the lost ground, only because of my support. It is a sorry state of affairs that you have conveniently forgotten the same and without even informing me, you have tried to reap the accolades of my successful movie ‘Anniyan’ by associating yourself and adaptation of Hindi version of the same.”

Shankar is yet to respond to these allegations but announcing the film on Baisakhi, he had said, "For it to be made into a Hindi film, Anniyan needed a maverick, charismatic showman like no other to play the part. I found this in the mercurial Ranveer Singh because he is a once-in-a-generation actor who has shown us that he can immortalise a character through his stellar performance."

"I'm thrilled to make Anniyan for the pan-Indian audience and I'm confident that this powerful story will strike a chord in the hearts of all. In Dr. Gada, Ranveer and I have found an ideal producer who believes in the vision we have to change the nativity of content for audiences across the country," he added.
