Roohi Star Janhvi Kapoor Reveals How She Prepped To Play A ‘Chudail’; Talks About Her Fear Of Ghosts

Back in 2018, Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao left fans pleasantly surprised with their horror comedy Stree. Their chemistry, story-line and the perfect amount of comedy and horror was impeccable. So when Dinesh Vijan announced Roohi as the second film in his horror universe, the audience had really high expectations for it. Starring Rajkummar, Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Sharma, Roohi hit theatres yesterday and successfully managed to win hearts. Janhvi’s performance as a girl possessed by a ghost who abducts brides was especially lauded by movie lovers.

In a recent chat with Spotboye, Janhvi revealed how she prepared to play the role of a ‘chudail’ on screen. She shared, “I watched The Exorcism Of Emily Rose repeatedly. I think that actress Jennifer Carpenter is simply outstanding. It is one of the most underrated performances ever. I also watched Jyothikaji’s performance in Chandramukhi very closely. And Bhool Bhulaiya. Then I saw the original Exorcist with Linda Blair.” But it wasn’t easy for her. She explained, “The performance as a chudail was not at all funny for me. It required a high level of performing ability from me. I had to push myself.”

Janhvi went on to reveal that she is quite scared of ghosts in real and each time she watches a horror film, she starts imagining reflections in the mirror or creatures sitting on her closet. But she still asked the producer to consider her for the role when she heard that he was casting for Roohi and feels lucky to have fit the bill. Janhvi shared, “I heard the one-line concept and I fell in love with it. The concept was, there’s this girl and she’s possessed by a chudail. One man is in love with the girl and the other with the chudail.”
