Saif Ali Khan Calls 'Male Stalkers' A Genre In Indian Cinema, Says Shah Rukh Khan Made His Career on It

Saif Ali Khan is known for his versatile movie choices, be it playing a cop in the Netflix series Sacred Games or donning the avatar of a naga sadhu in his upcoming film Laal Kaptaan. The actor has been pretty vocal about the choice of his films despite the box office failure of many of his recent releases and recently also spoke about the prominent culture in Bollywood movies that glorify stalkers. The actor also named Shah Rukh Khan as one of the actors who made a name by playing a stalker early on in their careers.

Talking to Zoom the actor said, “Male stalker is almost the genre for Indian cinema and somehow it's always been successful and Shah Rukh Khan made his career on it in the beginning.” Speaking about why that is, Saif blamed it on makers who ape the west.  The actor added, “I don't know, it's like a society thing, we have a tendency to give the audience what we feel they want and again, these characters must have trickled down from the West... they must have been because we copy a lot.”

With more content-led movies taking center stage in Bollywood, stalker behavior has certainly gone down in movies and actors are taking bigger risks than sticking to the old formulas. Saif Ali Khan too has been picking some character-oriented roles that have impressed us and we hope that this change sustains for good.
