Saif Ali Khan Talks About His Many Collaborations With Akshay Kumar In The 90's: 'I Completed Him And He Completed Me'

As a Khan in Bollywood, Saif Ali Khan forged his own path in the industry very different from the three mega Khans, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman and Aamir. While the latter three are often face comparisons with each other, Saif admits that not forging a path to stardom like them worked in his favour.

The actor, who is looking forward to play Ravan in the Om Raut magnum opus Adipurush, got talking about his journey and said that the three Khans were born to be actors while talking to Film Companion in an interview. Looking at his journey in comparison he said, “I have to say these guys – Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir – were kind of born somehow to be actors. I think it must have been a childhood ambition. Certainly, I know it was for two of them. I don’t know if it was Salman’s ambition anyway but he was certainly built for it and made for the kind of success he saw. I joined movies at a time where you got to aim to either be a superstar or not bother. And there’s a point there. It wasn’t really about nuance, different kinds of characters… all that has happened now.”

Saif also spoke about Akshay Kumar, a star with who he has done many films in the 90’s. The actor said that they completed each other on screen and that helped them both rise in their respective journeys. He tells the channel, “If I was cute and fun in a lot of movies and I did a lot of work with Akshay Kumar, who perhaps lacked at that point, cute and fun, so we made a kind of super-person and found our way in the industry. I completed him and he completed me. I think that’s why we are so fond of each other till today. We realise we owe each other that, in a sense.”

“Usually, a solo successful superstar like these guys (Shah Rukh, Salman, Aamir) don’t need someone to complete them,” Saif added.

The actor also spoke about the turning point in his career where he decided to have fun on screen when things weren’t working out in the money and stardom department. That’s when he decided to do films like Love Aaj Kal.

Saif is working on Adipurush now after collaborating with Om Raut on Tanhaji last year, he is also awaits the release of two comedies – Bunty Aur Babli 2 and Bhoot Police – which got stalled due to the pandemic.
