Sanjay Leela Bhansali feels Alia starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi is his biggest film till date; won’t go for digital release

Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali took their much anticipated project Gangubai Kathiawadi on floors in 2019. It was almost complete when a lockdown was imposed due to the pandemic. They resumed shoot but it came to a halt again after the filmmaker tested positive for COVID-19. A while later, Alia also contracted coronavirus. By the time the two of them recovered, a janta curfew was announced. Well, two weeks ago, the team finally called a wrap on the film.

According to latest buzz, it was all worth the wait because Bhansali is happy with the outcome. In fact, he is ready to wait for as long as it takes to release Gangubai Kathiawadi in theatres instead of a digital premiere. In a report shared by Spotboye, a source was quoted saying, “SLB is immensely pleased with the end-result. He feels Gangubai Kathiawadi is his biggest and best film to date in terms of the scale and size of the visuals and emotions. These cannot be relocated to the OTT platform at any cost.”

While Gangubai Kathiawadi will arrive only on the big screen, Bhansali is also working on a project for the OTT world. Titled Heera Mandi, the web series is in its early stages and will premiere on streaming giant Netflix. According to reports, Kartik Aaryan and Sonakshi Sinha have been roped in for the same.
