Shahid Kapoor’s Next Telugu Remake In Hot Waters Due To Disagreements With Karan Johar And Telugu Makers

Shahid Kapoor has delivered a total knock-out with his recent release Kabir Singh and we are all waiting with bated breath for his next venture. While nothing has been made official yet, there was a possibility that Shahid was going to star in the Hindi remake of yet another Telugu hit Jersey.

The Telugu film starring Nani was a success with the masses and in fact, it was Shahid who was instrumental in putting the remake venture together. A source close to the development informed, “It was Shahid who showed a keen interest in Jersey. He was instrumental in making sure the film gets a Hindi remake. When he watched the film, he felt it has got a universal appeal and it caught his fancy. It is extremely emotional and is based on cricket and Shahid has been wanting to do a sports film for quite some time now.”

However, the project has now run into hot waters due to some disagreements. The source revealed, “Rana Daggubati who is a friend of Karan Johar and Dil Raju, the producer of Jersey, got both of them connected. It was Rana who told KJo to take up the rights to the film and when the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil director watched it, he also loved it. Shahid also touched base with Karan and both of them agreed to do the film. However, there was a disagreement over the remake rights. Dil Raju refused to part with the rights and demanded a really high amount. The main thing is that he wants to make it himself. The deal he was getting from Dharma Productions didn't work out with him and Karan also decided to finally opt out.”

So now what is the fate of the project? The source informs, “Now, Jersey will definitely be remade in Hindi. But Dil Raju will produce it and get other financiers on board. Kabir Singh has turned out to be a huge blockbuster at the box office and the producer also is interested in getting Shahid to play Nani's role from the original. But the actor has expressed his reservations after Kabir Singh's release. Although he loves the story of Jersey, he doesn't want to do another South remake immediately after Kabir Singh. So, now, let's see whether Dil Raju will make the film with someone else or wait for Shahid till he completes another project in between.”
