Shahid Kapoor is all set to wrap up 2021 with a bang as his next Jersey has locked the last day of the year for release. The actor who broke box office records with his performance in Kabir Singh before this family drama with cricket at the heart of it has at the trailer launch of Jersey said that he went begging to everyone.

The actor had not signed any films after Kabir Singh and it was only some months later that the actor announced he be starring in the Hindi remake of Nani’s Telugu film Jersey. Shahid has said that he had watched the movie a few weeks before Kabir Singh was released and had cried buckets.

While launching the trailer of the film in Mumbai today Shahid said, “After Kabir Singh released, I went like a beggar to everybody. I have been working for 18 years and finally a film of mine did such big business. I was very uncomfortable thinking about what should I do next after Kabir Singh. Some asked me to play college boy, some asked me to play an aggressive character again. I heard this story and it stayed with me. I saw this film 2 weeks before Kabir Singh was released and I cried buckets. I saw it with Mira and my manager and they were both looking at me.”

The actor further spoke about working with Jersey’s original National Award winning filmmaker Gowtam Tinnanuri and added, “Then Kabir Singh happened and the story stayed close to my heart. Gowtam is a very fine filmmaker and the way he has touched my emotional core, I am proud to have played this character under his direction.”

Jersey is the story of a father trying to live up to his son’s expectations and in the process living a forgotten dream as a cricketer. The film is lined up for release on December 31 and also stars Mrunal Thakur and Pankaj Kapur in key roles.
