Shang Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings says no to beef in Hindi dub, veg biryani comes to rescue

The Hindi dub versions of Hollywood films often deviate from the English dialogues in the original keeping the audience in mind. In the case of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, a dialogue about the two key characters from the film ordering ‘beef’ on the flight has been changed to ‘veg biryani’ keeping in mind the sensitivity of the subject.

Awwkwafina Katy and Simu Liu’s Shang Chi star in the scene where they are offered the option of eating beef or vegetarian by a flight attendant and they both select beef. With only vegetarian available on the menu then later take vegetarian. However, in the Hindi dub they are given the vegetarian, non vegetarian options and they select veg biryani. Furthermore, a Twitter user highlighted how in the Tamil and Malayalam dubs beef becomes upma and bread omelet respectively.

Sang Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings arrived on Disney+ Hotstar on Friday. Simu Liu’s character is the newest addition to MCU’s phase 4 in the aftermath of Avengers Endgame and is Marvels’ first Asian superhero. The film received praise from all corners after it released in cinemas in September this year.
