Sharad Malhotra Thought He Was Going To Be The Hero Of Naagin 5, Not The Villain; Says ‘Ekta Just Threw A Googly’

After Ekta Kapoor’s supernatural thriller series Naagin 4 failed to win hearts of the audiences, unlike the previous seasons which were super hit, the producer announced season 5. Well Naagin 5 went on air a few weeks ago and it left fans in awe! The star cast, story-line and the visual effects are an absolute delight. Featuring Surbhi Chandna as Naagin Bani, Mohit Sehgal as Naag Jay and Sharad Malhotra as cheel veer, the show follows their story after they reincarnate and forget the past. For the very first time in his career, Sharad has played a negative role and fans are loving it! In fact, his sizzling chemistry with Surbhi is one of the major highlights of Naagin 5.

In a chat with Pinkvilla, Sharad opened up about his character and revealed, “Initially when I was offered Naagin 5, I had this perception that I was going to be the hero. But then I was corrected saying that no, Ekta Ma'am wants you as the antagonist, as the villain and that completely took me by surprise. It was something which I never expected.” He went on to add that nobody ever visualized him as a negative lead in his television career of 14-15 years. Sharad added, “I have been playing only hero or the protagonist, the positive guy for the longest time, I played a warrior, a sanskari beta or pati but never a grey character. I am forever going to be grateful to them for this opportunity, Ekta just threw a googly.”

Talking about the first day on set, the actor shared that he had cold feet because he is so used to playing the hero, not the antagonist. He recalled, “On the first day of shoot, I was cold feet because I am used to playing a hero, I walk and talk like a hero but right here she wants Veer to be a brass, evil, kamina but when he walk, he gives a rat ass about anyone. He doesn't believe in love and is all about lust. Such a man is difficult to find up here.” Sharad further shared that he had never done such a character and hence he was very excited. However, he did not watch the first episode when it aired on television. After some time when he and his wife saw the reception that his character got on the internet, he was overwhelmed and welled up.

Well we wonder if Naagin Bani will reunite with her lover Jay again, or will a new love story brew between Bani and Veer. Any guesses?
