Shefali Shah Talks About Being Typecast A Mother In Films, Jokes "According To Screen Time, I'm Probably 133 Years"

International Emmy winner Delhi Crime has been a game-changer for actress Shefali Shah who headlined this Richie Mehta web series based on a horrific crime that shook the nation back in 2012. The actress who has been heaped with praises for the portrayal of a cop who helmed the investigation of the case talks about her Bollywood projects and how she was typecast to play a mother very early in her career.

Shefali while talking to Times Of India said that there’s a beauty of being an actor to be able to play different roles across age, religion, and race but she was ultimately stuck with offers of playing a mother on screen to actors not much younger to her.

Talking about being typecast, Shefali recalled, “I was typecast a mother's role very early in life. I didn't even reach a certain age.. I was 20. I did a show where I played the mother of a 15 year old, I was 20 years old when I played a mom of 45. And then when I was around 28-30, I played mother to Akshay Kumar. So I got typecast very early, if I didn't even have to reach a certain age point. According to screen time, I'm probably 133 years or something. [laughs]”.

The actress said that after playing Akshay’s mother in Waqt she was kind of stuck, recalling why that was she added, “What happened was…that the kind of work I was getting offered was not the kind of work I wanted. It didn't necessarily have to do with a mother, grandmother, sister, friend.”

That said Shefali is happy and proud with her filmography as it shaped out. Delhi Crime has put the actress in the center of the story and we can’t wait to see where she goes from here.
