Shoojit Sircar Opens Up About Releasing Gulabo Sitabo On OTT Platform; Reveals Plans For Udham Singh

Since release dates of upcoming movies have been postponed indefinitely due to the coronavirus lockdown, many makers are opting for a digital release for their films. Shoojit Sircar’s much-awaited film Gulabo Sitabo is one such project. Lead actors Ayushmann Khurrana and Amitabh Bachchan took to social media a few days ago to announce that their comedy drama will now premiere on Amazon Prime, instead of theatres, on 12th June.

Explaining the decision to go ahead with a digital release in a chat with Pinkvilla, director Shoojit shared, “I made Gulabo Sitabo as a cinematic experience. It was the situation that called for a decision like this. So I experimented. I'm happy to do this experiment (of releasing the film online). Both Gulabo Sitabo and Udham Singh are cinematic experiences; nothing is less, nothing is more. It's all about creating good cinema.”

So, will Vicky Kaushal's Udham Singh head the same path? Well, the director has been working on one film at a time and revealed that Udham Singh still requires post production work which he will begin after the release of Gulabo Sitabo. He further shared, “We still don't know which way we will go with Udham Singh at this point. There's work pending in the post production of the film which we need to complete first.”

While the news about Gulabo Sitabo’s release on Amazon Prime left movie-watchers delighted amid the lockdown, INOX and The Producers Guild of India released statements expressing their disappointment. However, they did not mention if this statement was for Gulabo Sitabo or not.
