Sona Mohapatra Feels Financials Of Bollywood Don't Add Up: ‘Your Ananya Pandays And Your Janhvi Kapoors Haven’t Even Proven Their Worth’

Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely demise sparked many controversies and soon a never seen before, ‘dark’ side of the industry came into the limelight. Many celebrities shared their opinion on social media and while some outsiders opened up about their struggle, others revealed how they had been removed from projects. Well in a recent interview, singer Sona Mohapatra opened up about the industry’s controversies that are making headlines. Stating that Bollywood’s finances don’t add up, Sona shared that the numbers of their theatrical returns don’t justify the kind of money that they make in all the endorsements that come their way.

In a chat with Barkha Dutt, Sona shared, “India has been giving them a lambi chhoot. The kind of money they make for very little that they actually deserve. Your Ananya Pandays and your Janhvi Kapoors haven’t even proven their worth but they are loaded down with endorsements and this industry I think has been riding on the past legacy. Be it your Raj Kapoor, Madan Mohan, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Lata Mangeshkar, Manna Dey, these are the legends, the shoulders on which we stand on. And right now society is asking some very critical questions.”

She went on to explain, “We have an industry which is based on virtue signaling, who want to make all these disproportionate returns whether they have the box office returns. You have actors like Kareena Kapoor who are the UN ambassador for education, you have Farhan Akhtar UN ambassador for women. Everything is taken by these little 5-6 families and they open for international bands Sonakshi Sinha, and I’m as a musician furious with the state of affairs that we’ve let them go that far.”
