After winning hearts with their superb jodi in Marjaavaan, Sidharth Malhotra and Tara Sutaria reunited for a music video titled Masakali 2.0. Recreated by Tanishk Bagchi and sung by Tulsi Kumar and Sachet Tandon, the track did not garner as much appreciation as AR Rahman's original song from Sonam Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan’s Delhi-6. In fact, Masakali 2.0 failed to impress the audience and the makers were criticized by renowned artists of the industry for ‘riding on the original song’s name’.

Sonu Nigam, who is in Dubai during the lockdown, shared his opinion about the same in a chat with Rajeev Masand. Calling Masakali AR Rahman’s ‘baby’, the singer shared, “Masakali is AR Rahman's one his most beautiful and loved songs of all time. Thoda dhyaan se sunna chahiye. Churana bhi hai toh wo mat churao so sabse precious hai. If you want to steal something, steal the utensils. Don't steal somebody's child. Because that's the baby. Rob somebody's house, do whatever, don’t take somebody's child. Don't do that.”

In an earlier interview, Sidharth had also opened up about the flak received by the music video and had revealed that initially it was shot as a promotional song for his film Marjaavaan. Well, recreating or rebooting iconic songs can be a pretty tricky business. Sometimes fans like it, other times they get creative and use the clips for memes.
