Sridevi Never Wanted A Sequel To Mr. India; Had Called It ‘Impossible’ In An Old Interview

Shekhar Kapur’s superhero film Mr. India is undoubtedly one of the most iconic cinematic masterpieces that Bollywood has ever seen. So, it came as a surprise to fans when director Ali Abbas Zafar announced that he will soon begin working on the script for a trilogy of films inspired by Mr India. However, neither Anil Kapoor nor Shekhar Kapur were consulted before the announcement was made. Soon enough, Sonam Kapoor took to her official handle to call it ‘disrespectful’ and later informed her followers that her father has had a word with Boney Kapoor, who is believed to be the sole holder of the rights to Mr India.

While there is still a lot of confusion regarding the remake of Mr. India, an old interview of late actress Sridevi suggests that she never wanted her film to have a sequel. She had shared, “I don’t think that Mr. India can be remade or turned into a sequel. Such a film just happens. When we were working on it, we never thought it would turn out to be such an influential film. Even today, people remember the film, Mogambo, and my character of the talkative journalist. Everything just came together. Such a happy situation is impossible to repeat.”

Featuring Sridevi and Anil Kapoor in lead roles and Amrish Puri as the antagonist, Mr. India not only gave us interesting characters and dialogues to remember, but even blessed us with chartbuster hits such as Hawa Hawaii and Kaante Nahi Kat Te. Do you think it is possible to remake the film or give it a sequel?
