Student Tries To Cross Border To Pakistan To Meet Girlfriend, Much Like Abhishek Bachchan In Refugee, Get Arrested

Abhishek Bachchan’s Refugee plot became all too real as a 21-year-old engineering student tried to cross the India-Pakistan border via the Runn of Kutch to meet his girlfriend in Karachi. The film was of course a fictional tale of cross border romance but Abhishek’s character known as Refugee is easily seen crossing the border to meet Kareena Kapoor frequently.

On July 16, one Zeshaan was found by the Border Security Force unconscious and dehydrated close to the India Pakistan border. On questioning, he revealed that he was trying to cross the border by navigating his way using Google maps to meet his girlfriend in Karachi.

Zeshaan hails from Maharashtra and had been reported missing and was tracked using his phone number. The 21-year-old had met his girlfriend Samra online and they were keeping in touch using Facebook and WhatsApp. BSF handed him over to the police after identifying him and remains in custody.

While his story has no real ties to the two-decade old movie, it really sounds almost inspired only that this real attempt at a cross border romance reveals it’s not all that easy to just stroll past international boarders especially through a desert like Rann Of Kutch.
