Sunil Gavaskar Responds To Anushka Sharma's Post, Says "Where Am I Blaming Her For Virat’s Failures?”

The Kings XI Punjab V/S Royal Challengers Bangalore match has grabbed headlines for more reasons than one. While KL Rahul made an impact with his performance, it was Sunil Gavaskar's commentary that drew more attention, and courted controversy. He had mentioned Virat practicing cricket with Anushka Sharma during the live commentary. Now, many netizens found a double meaning to the statement and many criticized the cricketer for bringing in Anushka Sharma into the context. Anushka too hit back at Gavaskar. Now, he has responded to it.

Talking to India Today, he clarified that he had only mentioned the viral video and that he had never blamed her for Virat's performance, He said, "I am not blaming her. I am only saying that the video said that she was bowling to Virat. Virat has played only that bowling during the lockdown period. It’s a tennis ball, fun game that people have to pass time during the lockdown. That’s all. Where am I blaming her for Virat’s failures?”

Anushka had taken to her social media yesterday after the incident and wrote, “That, Mr Gavaskar, your message is distasteful is a fact but I would love for you to explain why you thought of making such a sweeping statement on a wife accusing her for her husband's game? It's 2020 and things still don't change for me. When will I stop getting dragged into cricket and stop being used to pass sweeping statements?”
