Swara Bhasker Served Notice By NCW For Disclosing Identity Of Hathras Rape Victim

The National Commission for Women has now served a notice to actress Swara Bhasker for disclosing the identity of a woman in the Hathras gangrape case, reported ANI. BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya and Congress leader Digvijaya Singh have also been sent notices.  The NCW alleged that Bhasker and the other two politicians shared pictures of the 19-year-old Dalit woman on Twitter and demanded the removal of the posts from the public domain. The Indian Penal Code strictly prohibits the disclosure of the identity of a sexual assault victim and a suspect can also be imprisoned for up to two years for violating the law.

NCW took to its official Twitter handle and wrote, “@NCWIndia has served notices to @amitmalviya @digvijaya_28 & @ReallySwara seeking explanation on their #Twitter posts revealing the identity of the #Hathras victim along with a direction to remove these posts immediately & to refrain from sharing such posts in future @sharmarekha" [sic]
