Thalaivi: Kangana Ranaut Opens Up About Charging Rs. 25 Crores; Reveals Film Has Been Sold To Both Amazon And Netflix

Kangana Ranaut is an actress par excellence and there is little doubt that she makes every character she has played her own. She puts her heart and soul into her roles and that is probably a reason why her characters stay with us long time after we have watched the film. The most recent film for which she had been prepping up and had left no stones unturned is Thalaivi. She has been giving more than her hundred percent for the Jayalalitha biopic. In fact, from learning Bharatnatyam to taking pills to gain wait, she is doing it all. Now in a recent interview, she got candid about the film, its chances of direct OTT release and about her pay-cheque for it.

In an interview with Pinkvilla, Kangana Ranaut openly accepted that she has charged Rs. 25 crores for the film! She said, “Thalaivi I am shooting in two languages, so I will charge for two films, I will not charge for one film.” She also added that she is willing to lower the fee if need be due to the current pandemic, but she would not let this film suffer!

She also revealed that the film has been sold to both Amazon Prime and Netflix. Then would it be heading to a direct OTT release? She clarified that for a big film like this, OTT woudn’t do justice and that they are looking for a theatrical release. She quipped, “Thalaivi is a bilingual film. As a matter of fact, the film is sold to both Netflix and Amazon in both Hindi and Tamil for around Rs 55 crore. They also have satellite rights to sell for both languages and also distribution rights. So, whenever a project is conceived, there is a financial blueprint to it, recovery blueprint to it. Then they match actors and their market worth and accordingly are approached. When I take a project, I always see the recovery blueprint and then I charge."

Well, Kangana has been upfront and open while speaking about this project, like always. She has two other projects too in the pipeline- Dhakad and Tejas.
