Thalaivi Trailer: Kangana Ranaut Packs A Punch As She Brings Jayalalithaa's Story To Life, Promises A Biopic To Watch Out For

On Kangana Ranaut’s birthday the makers launched the much awaited trailer of her film Thalaivi based on the life of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. The actress’s striking resemblance to the late politician had been making headlines since the first few looks of her from the film dropped on social media, and in the trailer, she promises a prolific performance was one of the most powerful women in Indian politicians.

Known as the queen of Tamil cinema, Thalaivi's trailer kicks off showing Kangana in the many avatars from the ‘60s and ‘70s when Jayalalithaa was turning heads in the world of cinema. It goes on to cover the part where Jayalalithaa joins politics on the insistence of her frequent co-star M.G. Ramachandran.

Jayalalithaa’s equation with MGR marks the highlight of the first half of the trailer whereas, Kangana shines was she embodies Jayalalithaa, the politician, revisiting the various struggles that she had to face to rise in ranks in a male-dominated world.

Fight against patriarchy and never give up is a constant theme in the trailer while Kangana’s powerful act gives goosebumps. The whole package makes Thalaivi a film worth watching out for this year. The biopic will release in theatres on 23 April 2021.
