Thappad: Taapsee Pannu On Why She Agreed To Get Slapped For A Film: So There’s A Bigger Slap On People Who Are Watching

Breaking boundaries on film at a time, Taapsee Pannu is now going to give the patriarchal society a look in the mirror with Thappad. Directed by Anubhav Sinha the film raises voice against domestic abuse and the manner it is normalized. The trailer got a resounding applause and Taapsee performance is already being praised by all those who have been able to catch the film in the few special screenings.

The actress in a recent chat with Good Times was asked what made her say yes to getting slapped in the film and Taapsee who is not known for mincing her words had a fiery response, “So that there’s a bigger slap on the people who are watching it. Men and women, both. I had to take that slap, and not one but seven times.”

Taapsee plays a homemaker in the film who gets slapped publicly at a party by her husband and she decides to end her marriage over the incident while constantly being advised by those around her to let the incident pass.

In another interview with Hindustan Times, the actress had called Thappad the most challenging film of her career. “Thappad is one of the most challenging projects of my career because I carry this image of a firebrand actor and people think that isse koi maarega toh yeh ghumaake maaregi. We were trying to strip off that firebrand image to make her resonate with the average Indian woman who still believes in keeping things to herself and not fighting back. And to make my audience believe in my character Amrita who is submissive and vulnerable, was tough,” the actress had said.
