Varun Dhawan And Sara Ali Khan Starrer Coolie No. 1 Might Head For OTT Release If Theatres Take Longer To Open

The current situation that the entire world is grappling with is unprecedented! The coronavirus pandemic has caused not just the nation but the world to opt for a lockdown to control the spread and therefore, we have now found alternate means for everything. Entertainment industry seems to have taken a massive hit and completed films are now opting for a direct OTT release. In Bollywood, many big-budget and anticipated films might head for a similar fate. It had earlier been reported that some of the films that can take this route include Akshay Kumar’ Laxxmi Bomb, Ajay Devgn’s Bhuj: The Pride Of India, Alia Bhatt-Aditya Roy Kapoor’s Sadak 2, Sushant Singh Rajput’s last film Dil Bechara along with Abhishek Bacchan starrer Bigg Bull, Kriti Sanon’s Mimi, Shiddat and Lootcase. Well, another name might be added to the list and it is none other than Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan starrer Coolie No. 1.

According to Rajeev Masand, the makers are still sticking to the plan of releasing it in theatres. In his piece for the open magazine, the critic mentioned that fans can hope to see Coolie No 1 in theatres. But, if it takes longer for the theatres to reopen than expected, then the film might head for a direct OTT release!

Many films, not just in Bollywood but also in the south industry are heading for direct OTT release. Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurran starrer Gulabo Sitabo released recently on Amazon Prime. Vidya Balan’s Shakuntala Devi would release on the same platform in some days and so would Janhvi Kapoor's Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl on Netflix.The digital rights of Coolie No 1 are also with Amazon Prime.
