Victim's mother opens up about being ridiculed after Pearl V. Puri's arrest: Have given my statement to the concerned authorities

The arrest of popular television actor Pearl V Puri has incited a strong response from the TV industry where several of his colleagues vouched for the actor’s innocence and demanded justice for him. Pearl has been arrested by the Mumbai police for allegedly raping a minor on the sets of his TV show in 2019. The victim is the daughter of another actor on the show.

Recently singer and actress Divya Kumar Khosla accused the victim’s father of filing a fabricated case against Pearl to win custody of his daughter in an ongoing case of separation from his wife. The victim’s mother was also called out for her silence in the matter despite Ekta Kapoor earlier claiming that according to her Pearl is innocent.

The minor’s mother has now fired back at all the allegations being levied on her and issued a statement about why she’s choosing to remain silent. In a note she wrote, "A lot of people are calling and asking me to come to the media and speak. My silence should not be construed as my weakness. My respect and faith in the judiciary has made me take this step. Many people have choose to ridicule me and my daughter in public which is not permissible by law. Publicising a victims name in public is a offence."

She further added, "I choose to remain silent as I am not the complainant in the case. Whatever is true shall come out. The matter is subjudiced and hence I am not speaking to anyone as the custody case is pending in the Highcourt and it’s my earnest request to all that please don’t make a mockery of the legal system as I have given my statement to the concern authorities. Let the truth prevail.”

Pearl V. Puri is presently in judicial custody and is facing charges under IPC section 376 AB (rape of woman below 12 years of age) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. He was arrested on Friday.
