Vikrant Massey Shares His Take On Nepotism; Says Star Kids Are Not Asked To Sit In The Sun Or Give Auditions

Vikrant Massey is undoubtedly one of the most talented, versatile and natural actors that the Indian entertainment industry has ever seen. However, he is highly underrated and it took many years for him to get the projects and popularity that he is worthy of. Vikrant began his career with the show Dhoom Machaao Dhoom as an actor and choreographer and went on to win hearts with Balika Vadhu and Baba Aiso Varr Dhoondo. He made his debut in Bollywood with Lootera, co-starring Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha, and has since impressed the audience consistently with his performances in films such as Dil Dhadakne Do, A Death In The Gunj, Half Girlfriend and Chhapaak.

In a recent chat with TOI, Vikrant opened up about how much television actors have to struggle to switch from TV to Bollywood. He revealed that they only get smaller parts in films and went on to share, “I was told to my face I am not quintessential hero material. I am not the good-looking guy with biceps. Yeh sab sunke aapki himmat toot jaati hai. These comments weren’t positive and I took it personally. I was angry, but I used that anger to prove these people wrong. As an actor, I had over 10 years of experience in TV, but that wasn’t counted. You have to start from scratch and you have to adapt as these two are different mediums with different priorities.”

When asked about his take on nepotism, the actor said, “Unless you are a good actor, you won’t survive. As far as the disparity is concerned, it is tougher for outsiders. Star kids have access to information that we don’t. Unko dhoop mein bithaake nahi rakhte, unko auditions nahi dene padte Also, the respect you get on set is directly proportional to the length of your role and how important you are to them.” Vikrant went on to share that he was lucky to get Lootera and to be able to work with Ranveer Singh, Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane. However, he wasn’t given the script of Lootera beforehand as he was playing the supporting part whereas Ranveer got the script in advance.

While Vikrant does feel that things have changed for him now since he is considered to be a ‘breakout star’, he says that it’s a hierarchical system. Explaining the same, he stated, “If a person plays a servant in a film, he is actually treated like one on set, unless he is an NSD alumnus or leaves in a BMW. Then even the ADs treat you differently.” This revelation is sure to change many notions. Don’t you think?

Meanwhile, Vikrant is currently busy gearing up for his upcoming exciting projects such as Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare, Haseen Dillruba and Ginny Weds Sunny amongst others.
