When Akshay Kumar Went To Audition For A Film With Rajesh Khanna But Was Turned Down Without A Meeting

Akshay Kumar is a star in Bollywood who forged his own luck and did not bow out when the going got difficult. Not hailing from any movie camps the actor had his own journey of struggles when he started out nearly 30 years ago in the movie business. Projects he signed not taking off, films not working at the box office and even getting rejected at auditions, he has seen it all and those harsh times make him the humble star he is today.

It was during his rocky start in Bollywood that Akshay had once apparently landed at superstar Rajesh Khanna’s office for an audition but was sent home without a meeting with the actor. The first superstar of Bollywood was producing a film titled Jai Shiv Shankar (1990) in which he was also starring and sadly when Akshay went around to audition for a role, Rajesh Khanna was busy.

Akshay, however, got to meet Dimple Kapadia who gave him an encouraging pep talk. It was Chunky Pandey who eventually bagged the role while Akshay went on to make his debut in the film Saugandh in 1991.

Jai Shiv Shankar wasn’t the only film Akshay apparently auditioned for, he is said to have auditioned for Aamir Khan’s Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander too. The incident is, however, a fun anecdote as 11 years after Jai Shiv Shankar, Akshay got married to Rajesh Khanna’s daughter Twinkle.

Akshay today has it all, a loving family, a career in movies that keeps on flourishing but above all we love him for his humility and his iron-clad will on which he has built his career.
