Amitabh Bachchan’s latter make for the highest order of compliments for their performance for any actor in the industry today. The superstar himself, however, couldn’t contain his joy once when veteran actor Dilip Kumar watch his film Black and heaped praises on the star in a latter. Not just Big B but Rani Mukerji confessed that she had received a letter of appreciation too from the movie star for Black.

Dilip Kumar was so impressed with the Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film and Amitabh Bachchan’s performance in it that he felt sad that the film and the actor didn’t get an Oscar nomination for it. Amitabh on Black’s 13th anniversary said that the greatest compliment for the film came from Dilip Kumar. He had even shared the latter from his Shakti co-star.

The legendry actor had recalled their collaboration Shakti and thanked Amitabh for praising his work in a previous blog post. Dilip Kumar wrote, “I am certainly privileged to know from your affectionate compliments that someone as knowledgeable and competent as you has liked my work. Yes, now that you have reminded me, I can recall the scenes that brought us together before the cameras for Shakti. I should say the respect and admiration are mutual”

The veteran star had gone ahead and complimented Amitabh’s contemporary work and added, "In recent times I can remember Black and, if I remember right, Saira and I were at a loss for words at the premiere night, after the curtain came down, to express our myriad feelings of admiration for your outstanding performance. It is a pity the film missed the Oscar nomination. If any Indian actor, in my personal opinion, deserves the world's most coveted award, it is you.”

Dilip Kumar also told the Black actor that he wanted to watch his acclaimed film Paa but he couldn’t as his wife Saira Banu couldn’t bear to see Amitabh dying on screen much like she couldn’t see Dilip Kumar himself die in his films.

“I have heard so much about Paa which we didn't catch up with. You know how Saira is —she never could see me die in my films and she could not muster the courage to see your death scene in Paa. Thank you, Amitabh, for your warm love and good wishes. May God keep you, Jaya and your family happy always,” Dilip Kumar concluded his letter saying.

Dilip Kumar died on the morning of 7 July. The actor was 98 and hospitalized since a week after complaints of breathlessness. His wife Saira Banu didn’t leave his side at the hospital all these days.
