When Ranbir Kapoor revealed he was almost cast in 3 Idiots, Rajkumar Hirani had plans to make the film with relatively new actors

Ranbir Kapoor and Rajkumar Hirani have delivered a blockbuster together with Sanju, which was both their last outing on the big screen in 2018. While Ranbir outdid himself playing Sanjay Dutt on the big screen, Hirani was hailed for his treatment of the actor’s life story which is filled with ups and downs.

After this grand success, both Hirani and Ranbir have been busy with other commitments but did you know that Sanju wasn’t the first time the filmmaker thought about casting the star in a project. Ranbir was once approached by the filmmaker when he was putting 3 Idiots for a part in the iconic film. The project was ultimately made with Aamir Khan, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi.

While there’s nothing that we would want to change about 3 Idiots as we know it, but one can’t help but wonder what the project would be like with Ranbir in the cast. It was in 2018 that Ranbir had told a leading daily about his almost casting in the 2009 Hirani blockbuster. The actor had said, “Raju sir met me when he was writing 3 Idiots and was thinking of casting new or relatively newer actors.”

Ranbir also added that he had always wanted to work with Rajkumar Hirani and that finally happened with Sanju. Before the Sanjay Dutt biopic, however, Ranbir did make a cameo as an alien in Aamir led PK.
