When Rishi Kapoor Confessed He Paid For An Award After Debut Film Bobby; The Trophy Would Cost Him Rs. 8.69 Lakhs Today!

Rishi Kapoor’s upfront and honest confessions and opinions have often made headlines be it during interviews or even his tweets. The veteran Bollywood actor in one of his most candid conversations had once gone on to reveal a side of himself that no other Bollywood actor in the industry would probably ever own up to.

While there is a whole lot of conversation about how stars are recognized at end of the year at award shows - popularity, favoritism, good camaraderie or in certain cases plain old merit – it still shocked millions of Bollywood fans when Rishi Kapoor confessed that he had once paid out Rs. 30000 to buy one for himself at an awards night.

The confession came during an interview on television with India Today back in 2017 where the actor candidly said, he brought himself a Filmfare Award in the year 1974 for his performance in the film Bobby which released in 1973.

Now, the story goes that Rishi Kapoor was approached by a fellow who claimed that if he paid him Rs. 30000 he will guarantee his win. Being ‘rich’ and a ‘brat’ (his words, not ours) he paid the amount and so many years later still feels guilty for winning that way. While he speculates he could have been conned since the person might have known he was winning or not but just paying for it truly felt wrong to him later.

In 2020, the trophy would have cost him nearly Rs. 8.69 lakhs if adjusted to inflation but we are sure that still won’t be a big deal to many of the stars if anyone tried it today (We truly hope that’s not happening).
