Actors Who Had Rejected Vicky Donor!

Ayushmann Khurrana Would Have Missed His Dream Debut Had These Actors Not Rejected Vicky Donor!

Almost three decades back, there was a man who had started his career with a TV show, but then came to Bollywood and conquered it like a true King. Almost two decades later, we had another man who transitioned from TV to Bollywood and changed the content we had been cheering for in the Hindi TV industry.

The first man, as you have already guessed, is none other than King Khan, Shah Rukh Khan. Almost 30 years back no one could have thought that this man with such unconventional and “non-hero” looks would actually be able to change how audiences looked at romance. The second man that we are talking about is Ayushmann Khurrana. When as kids or teenagers, we had seen a lanky boy in Roadies performing odd tasks, or this good-looking villain in TV serials, we could have never guessed that this will be the man who would change the audience’s perspective towards cinema with a ‘hatke’ content.

Of course, in no scale do we intend to judge one against the other- it is both impossible and unfair. But both of them are similar in the sense that they have given us a new perspective to look at Bollywood and actors.

Ayushmann Khurrana, who had a humble yet tremendous beginning in Bollywood with Vicky Donor, went on to give us some of the gems of Bollywood like Dum Laga Ke Haisha or the recent releases, Andhadhun and Badhaai Ho and is now considered one of those stars who we expect to startle us with more brilliant content films. This man had made a choice of who he wanted to be in the film industry- something that is difficult to sustain in an industry with cut-throat competition. In fact, he rejected three films in order to be a part of a movie like Vicky Donor. It is risky to choose a film based on a taboo topic of sperm donation as a debut film, and Ayushmann let go of other offers to give this his best shot. The experiment, that had equal chances of ending his career, sealed him as a talent to watch out for.

But did you know that Ayushmann was not the first choice for the film! Yes, Vicky Donor had changed hands before it had actually come to Ayushmann’s kitty.

When Sircar had thought of making the film, it had gone to Vivek Oberoi first. He had decided to produce the film and also act in it. But that never materialized. The offer for the film then went to Sharman Joshi, who politely declined the offer. It was then that the film went to John Abraham who decided to produce it.

This was John’s first film as a producer and he had made a conscious decision to not act in it. Ayushmann Khurrana was approached for the role and the rest is history.

In fact, even Anu Kapoor, who plays the character of Baldev Chaddha, was also not the first choice for the film.

First or not, we love how the film finally looked and could not have asked for a better cast!
