Here Is How The Cast Of Rangeela Might Have Looked If The Initial Choices Of The Film Accepted The Roles!

Rangeela has been one of the most iconic films of the 90s. Releasing in 1995, the film changed the definition of a Bollywood heroine and a hero. Not only was a tapori character the lead, but Urmila Matondkar became an overnight sensation after the release of the film. It was an immediate blockbuster and not just the actors but even the crew of the film got recognition. It was after the release of this film that Manish Malhotra, who designed Urmila's clothes in the film, became a famous designer. The choreographers of the film, Ahmed Khan and Saroj Khan, too were praised.

But did you know that none of the three main characters of the film was the initial choice?

Yes, Ram Gopal Varma had revealed that he had written the character of Mili, that was played by Urmila, with Sridevi in his mind. The role was offered to the legendary actress, but she declined it. The role was then offered to Raveena Tandon, but even she could not give her dates to the film. It was when a choreographer was not present for the shoot of a song Dhrohi and Ram Gopal Varma asked Urmila to put her own steps in the song that he was left impressed by her performance. It was then that he decided to cast Urmila as Mili Joshi.

For the role of Aamir Khan's character, Shah Rukh Khan was approached. But he thought that he might not be able to pull off the character of a tapori. It then went to Aamir Khan, who readily agreed and his risk completely paid off.

In fact, Jackie Shroff's character was also offered to Anil Kapoor, who declined the film due to lack of dates. And it then went to him. He received the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for the film.

Are you not glad that we got to see the trio of Urmila, Aamir and Jackie Shroff in the film?
