Here Is How Rajkumar Hirani Almost Hijacked A Wedding For The Shoot Of Munnabhai MBBS

It is almost impossible to find a Hindi film lover who does not hold Rajkumar Hirani in high regards. The man has given us gems like 3 Idiots, PK, and more recently Sanju that are not only some of the biggest box-office successes, but films that we truly take pride in.

It all started 15 years back on this day when Munnabhai MBBS hit the screens and we were not only introduced to this amazingly refreshing director but also breathed life into the career of Sanjay Dutt and gave him a film that is widely regarded as his most iconic hit.

Given the phenomena that the film has become over the years, it is interesting to remember that the film was not exactly a lavish production. In fact, made on a budget of 10 crores which back 2003, even if not a tight budget, was somewhat a middle budget film. Thus, the crew often came up with many cost-cutting ‘jugaad’ during filming to keep inside the budget resulting in many hilarious situations.

In an interview, Rajkumar Hirani recalled one such incident. For the last post credit picture montage where they show that Munna and Dr. Suman finally got married, Hirani wanted wedding decorations to take the photos. However, the set up would have cost the production an additional few thousands that were not in the budget.

One of the people from the production came up with a novel plan that was almost as hilarious as the film. There was a marriage hall exactly next to the location that they were shooting in and as the luck would have it the person in charge of production was able to strike a negotiation where they allowed them to photograph with the decorations intact.

However, Raju was sure that Sanjay Dutt and Gracy Singh would not be up for such an arrangement and thus he did not divulge the details to his actors and just asked Sanjay and Gracy to stay a little bit after the shoot for the day was over. But as they stood waiting, the production guy informed Hirani that the wedding was running a little behind the schedule. Also, owing to the delay Sanjay Dutt started getting drunk.

After a point when Hirani could not wait any longer, he just took his stars and entered the wedding venue right when the bride and groom were walking out of it. In fact, the bride and the groom were super confused as to what Sanjay Dut, that too a drunk Sanjay Dutt, was doing at their wedding.

However, all went well and they were able to take the pictures that they wanted without spending a single extra penny.
