Mohabbatein Could Have Been Priyanka Chopra’s Debut, Sridevi And Sachin Tendulkar Could Have Also Been A Part Of The Film
Mohabbaten Casting Coup
Back in 2000, Mohabbatein was not only the coolest film to inspire style trends but was also the biggest multi-starrer that anyone could have thought of. The film not only had Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Aishwarya in the film but was also the launch vehicle for Chopra scion Uday Chopra and actresses Kim Sharma, Preeti Jhangiani and Shamita Shetty. It was not the debut of Jugal Hansraj and Jimmy Shergill but the film surely put them on the map.

But did you know that the casting of this film was quite a task? The film could have been Priyanka Chopra’s debut as Yash Chopra had offered the role of Shamita Shetty to her. However, she had to decline the role as she was still under the contract for Miss World pageant. Uday then wanted Rinki Khanna to play the role, but it ultimately went to Shamita Shetty.
That is not all, cricketer Sachin Tendulkar was signed up for playing Amitabh’s stepson and Sridevi as his love interest from the past, however, both the roles were chopped from the film later and so was Mithun Chakraborty’s special appearance who was supposed to play Shefali Shah’s army husband.

Apart from these, Karisma and Kajol refused the role of Sanjana and Ishika, Sameera Reddy refused the role of Kiran that ultimately went to Preeti Jhangiani and Rani Mukerji turned down Megha's role which was ultimately done by Aishwarya.
