Be it a wedding, visarjan or a party with Bollywood enthusiasts, nothing makes people go crazy like ‘Khaike Paan Banaras Wala’ on the dance floor.

Not that the 1978 film Don was any less iconic, but this song, perhaps. topped even the popularity of the film. But did you know that the song was added to the film for the most bizarre reason?

When the film was finally completed, director Chandra Barot showed the film to the veteran actor Manoj Kumar for his opinions. He liked the film but also pointed out that there was no place for the audience to even catch a loo break.

The makers took the observation seriously and added ‘Khaike Paan Banaras Wala’ so that the audience could go for a loo break. The song composed by veteran music directors, Kalyanji Anandji, was actually made for Dev Anand’s Benarasi Babu but was not used later in the film. So the makers of Don decided to use the song and the rest, as they say, is history.

Not only this, the song has another funny story behind it. Makers were keen on Amitabh Bachchan having paan stained red lips in the song and inspired by the paan-eating habit of music director Anandji, makers decided to make Amitabh Bachchan have paan for the shoot.
