In 2006, when Bigg Boss was introduced to us, it was as weird as it was intriguing. The idea of seeing different celebrities being locked up in one house as they go about their days fighting about cooking and cleaning and planning to eliminate other contestants was like a drug that did not take us too long to get addicted to.

But this year, something has changed. If you perceive closely, the hype around Bigg Boss this year is nothing compared to what it used to be, even a year back. Even with heavy-weight celebs like Sreesanth and Deepika Kakkar, Bigg Boss 12 is a little 'thanda' and we kind of understand why.

We have seen numerous variations of the fights, the group formation, and the so-called twists that at this point we can predict them from a mile afar. We seriously who is trying romance and who is trying volatile temperament to spark the interest of the audience. It is something we have seen over and over again.

Even the tasks, which used to be one of the most fun things to watch, now all look the same. Like, not saying they have to be super clever or anything but the exact same tasks that we have seen in the last 5 seasons perhaps is just lazy.

One of the main reasons why Bigg Boss has lost its charm is because of its contestant selection which is runs like a quota system. The contestants are basically to fulfill the character quota that has previously worked for Bigg Boss. Like seriously, the new contestants are just the new faces of the characters who were a hit. We will always have a leading soap opera actress, one who throws a hissy fit, two people who try sparking a romance and a foul-mouthed reality TV star. There is only so much that can come out of the same combination.

Bigg Boss as a concept is as twisted as it is entertaining.
