Soon after the nationwide lockdown was declared to help stop the spread of coronavirus, Doordarshan began telecasting reruns of old TV shows to keep viewers entertained because shooting of new episodes was stalled. One of the biggest hits that made a comeback on the small screen was BR Chopra’s 1988 series Mahabharat. A little while later other channels followed suit and soon the 2013 Mahabharat also returned to the TV. Now, in a recent interview actor Sourabh Raaj Jain, who portrayed the role of Krishna, revealed one of the biggest differences in the cheer-haran scene from the two shows.

In a chat with Zoom, Sourabh opened up about why Krishna had tears in his eyes during the cheer-haran scene of the 2013 show. He stated that in BR Chopra’s Mahabharat, when Draupadi calls Krishna for help he arrives with a smile on his face and the drape of the saree comes out of his hand. However, while shooting for the new show the makers dwelled more into Lord Krishna’s mindset and thought to themselves: ‘Why would God smile in that situation?’

He went on to explain, “That is something we really thought about, and we came to the conclusion that Krishna maybe feeling bad and sad about the entire situation, because he is god no doubt on it. Although he may be feeling how humans can do such a thing. So he would not be smiling, and we shot this particular scene where he had tears in his eyes while helping Draupadi.”
