Not Gia Manek, But Devoleena Approached For Saath Nibhana Saathiya 2; Former Says ‘Can’t Be Gopi Bahu All My Life’

Recently a hilarious video of a scene from TV show Saath Nibhana Saathiya went viral on social media, leaving netizens in splits. Remixed by music producer Yashraj Mukhate, the rap version of Kokilaben aka Rupal Patel’s dialogue ‘Rasode mein kaun tha’ took the internet by storm. Soon makers of the show announced that fans can expect season 2 of the series, tentatively titled Saathiya 2, to launch in October. Featuring Kokilaben and Gopi, played by Devoleena Bhattacharjee, season 2 will reportedly go on floors in mid September.

While Devoleena was a part of the show for a much longer time, actress Gia Manek, who played the role of Gopi from 2010-2012, is known to be the ‘original Gopi bahu’. In fact, the viral video also features her. In a chat with TOI, Gia was asked if she was disappointed with makers for not approaching her for season 2. To this, the actress replied that she has lived the journey of Gopi bahu and even when Devoleena replaced her she was not angry because at the end of the day, everyone was doing their job. In fact, she added that if not Devoleena, then someone else would have been the new Gopi bahu.

She went on to add, “I don’t know much about the second season, but if they have cast Devoleena again, I am happy for her. I have got so much love from the show and people are making memes even after 10 years. I don’t feel bad about not being approached for the second season.” Talking about how an actor needs to take risks and not limit themselves, Gia stated, “I can’t be Gopi bahu all my life. Actors want to play different characters, because we don’t want to limit ourselves. If I keep playing Gopi bahu throughout my career, how will it add to my growth? I am greedy as an artiste and I feel fortunate to be blessed with versatile opportunities.”
