Shweta Tiwari’s Comeback Show Alongside Varun Badola, Mere Dad Ki Dulhan, Faces Plagiarism Charges!

Shweta Tiwari is all set to make her comeback to the small screen. The actress, who became a household name after playing Prerna in Kasautii Zindagi Kay, she was last seen back in 2016 in Begusarai. And now, she is all set to make her Tv comeback with Mere Dad Ki Dulhan, where she has been paired opposite Varun Badola. The promos promised a quirky story, where the grumpy man of a tweenager would probably undergo a see-change with the re-entry of love in his life! But looks like all isn’t well with the show.

Veteran Bollywood actress and Punjabi film producer, Preeti Sapru, has moved the Bombay Hight Court, claiming that the storyline of this serial is plagiarised. She claims that the storyline is absolutely the same as her Punjabi film, Teri Meri Gal Ban Gayi, which dealt with father-daughter relationship and how the daughter got the father married for a second time. The film has been shot and would be released next year.  Talking to Bombay Times, she was quoted saying, "I have spent a lot of money in the making of my film. It is 90 per cent complete, and we plan to release it next year. If a similar show is aired before my movie releases, people will think that my film is a rip-off. And that is not true because we had registered the concept in advance. If she has proof to show that she had shared the show’s concept in 2017, we want to see it."

Meanwhile, the producer of Mere Dad Ki Dulhan, Deeya Singh said, "We had narrated the show to the channel in 2017, and we have mails to prove it. We had thought of the idea and shared it as well before Preeti registered it. Also, there is a common misconception that copyright is applicable only after registration, whereas merely creating the work is enough for that. We don’t know Preeti at all. We have a letter from SWA saying that we were going to reply, but before we could respond, Preeti went to court."

Well, now it’s for the court to decide whether we would be able to see to see Shweta on the small-screen again. The show was to air from 11th November.
