Abhijeet Sawant Feels Indian Idol Now Focuses Only On The 'Tragic And Sad Stories Of Contestants' Rather Than The Talent

Abhijeet Sawant was the first winner of the singing reality show, Indian Idol. He participated in the first season of the show and bagged the coveted trophy. The show has undergone many changes since then! Now, in a recent interview, Abhijeet has ripped the show apart, claiming that a contestant's background has become more important than his/her talent now.

Talking to Aaj Tak, Abhijeet said, "These days, the makers are more interested in whether the participant can polish shoes or how poor he is, rather than his talent. You should watch regional reality shows where viewers may not know anything about the background of their favourite contestants. Their focus is only on singing, but in Hindi reality shows, the tragic and sad stories of contestants are shown. The focus is only on that."

He also revealed that during his time, he had forgotten the lyrics of the song he was singing and the judges graciously gave him a second chance. But he believes things wouldn't be the same now. "The judges decided among themselves that I should be given another chance. But I can tell you with confidence that had it happened today, it would have been served to the audience with full dramatic effects of thunder and shock. But the viewers are also responsible. Hindi language public is always hunting for more spice," he quipped.

Recently, Indian Idol faced criticism for the Kishore Kumar special episode. In a recent interview, host Aditya Naraya also revealed that the love angle presented in the current season is fake, but is done for entertainment. Do you agree with Abhijeet's views?
